If you just got engaged and your wedding is a year, or even two years, out, it’s tempting to put live wedding painting or watercolor guest illustrations on the “later” list. You think you’ve got time, right?
Here’s the thing: so does everyone else who’s already booked.
Right now I’m taking bookings for 2028, and there are only a few dates left on the 2027 calendar. That’s not a sales line, it’s just where things stand. Couples planning ahead have already claimed a lot of next year, and 2028 is filling faster than you’d expect for a year that still sounds far off.
How far in advance should you book a wedding painter?
The honest answer: earlier than you’d think. Live wedding painting isn’t like booking a caterer or a DJ, where there’s a large pool of vendors covering any given weekend. There’s only one of me, and only so many weekends in a year, so demand builds against a genuinely fixed supply.
Live wedding painting is a one-of-a-kind piece made in real time, at your one and only wedding day. There’s no reshoot, no second date, no “we’ll just do it another weekend.” Once your date is gone, it’s gone, whether that’s because I’m already booked elsewhere or because the day has passed.
The math is simple
I only take on so many weddings a year, because each painting gets my full attention, both on site and in the studio afterward. That means every date is limited by nature, not by scarcity marketing. If your date is a Saturday in a popular month, it may already be one of the first to go.
Booking early doesn’t just protect your date. It also gives us time to talk through composition, colors, and the vantage point that will make the most sense for your ceremony or reception space, so the final piece feels like it was made for your day and nobody else’s.

Winter weddings often get overlooked for live painting, but they make for some of the most striking pieces, string lights, candlelight, and rich indoor color palettes translate beautifully to canvas.
